Teen Challenge 2
A poem by the parent of one of the Teen Challenge Students
Where are you going, where have you been
Are we so blind we could not have seen
Why are you angry, why are you tired
Why is your work so uninspired
Who are your new friends
You say there are "sound"
Why are they always hanging around
Your bedroom door is always shut
You don't talk anymore, you look like a scruff
Why don't you eat the food we've prepared
We're becoming worried, we're feeling scared
Pushed into a corner with nowhere to go
You finally tells us what we already know
The realisation is hard to take
You admit you've made a big mistake
Cannabis, heroin, crack cocaine
injecting into every vein
you owe money to dealers, you need money to score
But your boss is about to show you the door
Who can you turn to, who will help out
Your mother and father, of that there's no doubt
We want to help you but what can we do
We can't turn you out, your own son, we love you
You get scripts from the clinic but to no avail
Your eyes are glazed, your face thin and pale
Money is tight but you still need to score
You begin to steal, we can't take it anymore
But where there is life there is hope
and we won't stop until you're off the dope
We seek support from a group called GASPED
Who have helped many people in the past
We hear a Teen Challenge bus in coming to Morley
Could this be the answer to our sorrowful story
We prayed and prayed for the bus to come
And for the help we needed for our much loved son
You stepped on board although hesitant at first
But the help you received made our hearts want to burst
You wanted to be free and they offered a way
The path was prepared; you couldn't wait for the day
The day finally came and we said our good-byes
Goodbye to the drugs, the deceit and the lies
You're now free from drugs
We're so glad you went
Teen Challenge for us was heaven sent
Gary has now been fully restored to society and works full time as a joiner and as a volunteer with Teen Challenge Youth
